All gifts presented to children and young people resident in the Home should be given on behalf of the Council. Staff should not give personal gifts to a child or young person, unless specific permission has been given by the Head of Children's Social Care under special circumstances. The receiving of gifts by staff is governed by the Council's Policy on Gifts and Hospitality (N1).
2.1 | Staff should be aware that the giving of personal gifts to children and young people, without special permission being given, could be misconstrued and could lead to allegations of misconduct. |
2.2 | When staff present children and young people with gifts, it should be made clear to the child/young person concerned, and their family, that they are presenting the gift on behalf of the Council. |
2.3 | The purchase of any gift presented to a child or young person should be accurately recorded in the Homes accounts, as well as on the child/young person's file. |
2.4 | Staff should familiarise themselves with the Council's policy on the receiving of gifts and hospitality, and should comply with this procedure if offered gifts or hospitality by a child or young person, or his or her family. |
