Empowerment and Resilience-Building
The Safeguarding Partnership Board wishes to empower individuals to take responsibility for their own lives. This includes enabling people to protect themselves from harm and abuse, with and without assistance from others. This may mean building on people's strengths and resilience, promoting recovery and working within people's chosen networks.
Support and interventions which empower people to make decisions and take control of situations underlie all safeguarding work. The consequences of experiencing abuse or neglect vary from person to person, depending on their resilience – resilience is a quality which helps people withstand adversity better. How resilient people are depends on a number of factors, such as personal attributes, history, and available support.
