Policy Objectives
Our objective is to prevent and reduce the risk of harm to all adults from abuse or other types of exploitation, whilst supporting individuals in maintaining control over their lives and in making informed choices without coercion.
In Jersey we believe that safeguarding is everybody's business with communities playing a part in preventing, detecting and reporting neglect and abuse. Measures need to be in place locally to protect those least able to protect themselves. Safeguards against poor practice, harm and abuse need to be an integral part of care and support. We should achieve this through partnerships between local organisations, communities and individuals.
The Jersey Safeguarding Partnership Board's (SPB) role in safeguarding is to co-ordinate work locally ensuring that professionals are clear about what is required of them and how they need to work together to safeguard both adults and children. This framework will assist the SPB in monitoring and ensuring the effectiveness of the safeguarding systems that are in place both within and between organisations in Jersey; and should help guide professionals and others to take appropriate and timely safeguarding action to prevent harm.
Our multiagency partnership supports and encourages our community to find local solutions. These solutions should all reflect the key principles in the following chapter Principles of Safeguarding Policy.
Whilst safeguarding responsibilities in the widest sense cover public protection matters: police, fire, domestic abuse, consumer safety (trading standards); our Multiagency Adult Safeguarding Policy and Procedures relate specifically to people with care and support needs, who are experiencing (or at risk of) abuse or neglect and are unable to protect themselves because of their care and support needs. |
