Whistleblowing
Staff who work with adults at risk have an individual responsibility to raise concerns with someone who has the responsibility to take appropriate action. For the purposes of safeguarding adults (and children) whistleblowing responsibilities relate to employees, former employees and members of all organisations working with people at risk.
It may be necessary to go outside the immediate work environment or immediate organisation when a person with care and support needs is affected.
Concerns can be directed to the:
- Safeguarding Adults Team – if abuse or neglect or cover up of abuse or neglect is witnessed or suspected;
- States of Jersey Police – if fraud or a potential crime is witnessed or suspected;
- Jersey Care Commission – if regulatory breaches or cover-ups are witnessed or suspected.
Organisations and multiagency partners should comply with their own whistleblowing policies.
