Glossary: ROTL (release on temporary licence)

Applies to young people in YOIs who must serve half of their custodial period before becoming eligible for ROTL or 24 months before the release date, whatever gives the later date. If a child or young person applies for ROTL, the establishment will make various checks to ascertain their suitability before finalising their risk assessment and making a decision to approve/decline the request.
