Glossary: Pre-sentence reports

A pre-sentence report is prepared by the YOT worker with the purpose of assisting the court in determining the most suitable method of dealing with an offender (section 158, Criminal Justice Act 2003). In cases where custody is being considered, this report must be in writing (as required by section 12, Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008).
