Glossary: Secure Hospital

Under the Mental Health Act 1983, a young person can be transferred from a secure estate establishment to a secure hospital if two medical health professionals have concluded they are suffering from a mental disorder, the nature or degree of which makes it appropriate for them to be detained in a hospital for treatment, and the appropriate medical treatment is available for them. The Secretary of State will require a report from the two medical health professionals.
