The Leadership and Management Standard


To ensure safety and security for the children and young people living at any children's home, as a minimum all Derbyshire County Council homes have 2 members of staff on duty who sleep in during the night. Generally these members of staff are staff that work a late shift (15.00 - 23.00 followed by a sleep in shift (23.00 - 7.00) and then continue their 24 hour shift by working 7.00 - 15.00).

Some homes employ waking night staff (particularly in the children's homes that support children and young people with disabilities and our short term home that statement of purpose is assessment where the children and young people will need a higher staffing ratio to the other smaller homes may have additional needs.

All the children's homes have appropriate security devices to ensure the children and young people are safe and secure.
