Multi-Agency Training Opportunities - 2023 - 24 

NORTHUMBERLAND CHILDREN AND ADULTS SAFEGUARDING PARTNERSHIP  

This training is free for NCASP partner organisations but a charge of £50 per course is incurred for non-attendance without prior cancellation. These courses are recognised as level 3 multi-agency safeguarding training for health professionals. 

Impact of Domestic Abuse (Level 1) 

This half-day course considers the nature, prevalence and impact of domestic abuse. It is level 1 of the regional domestic abuse training framework.

Domestic Abuse: Ask and Action (Level 2) 

This 1-day classroom course considers indicators of domestic abuse, use of targeted enquiry, risk assessment, the safety of victims/survivors and referral processes, including MARAC. This course is level 2 of the regional domestic abuse training framework. Delegates should complete Impact of Domestic Abuse (level 1) before attending this training.

Domestic Abuse: Risk Assessment and Risk Management

This half-day course focuses on how to assess and manage risk in relation to domestic abuse, including when and how to use the Risk Indicator Checklist, safety-planning and the role of the Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate (IDVA). Delegates should have completed Impact of Domestic Abuse (Level 1) before attending this training.

This 3-hour webinar  is for those professionals who need an awareness of the SoS principles and processes.

Wider children's social care workforce should consult their manager or this Signs of Safety Training Matrix to determine the most appropriate course for their role.

Transitional Safeguarding

This half day course provides professionals with the opportunity to explore myths and facts about Fabricated or Induced Illness and consider the implications for multi-agency working.

Safer Recruitment (wider children's workforce) 

Participants will look at how safer recruitment fits in with the wider context of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  The course looks at the importance of planning a recruitment exercise, sending the right messages to potential applicants, following a consistent and thorough process to obtain relevant information about each applicant, and short listing candidates for interview. 

Participants will also consider the importance of making the right decisions and using structured interviews, as well as using pre-employment checks on the selected candidate.

Change Star  

The change star training will support front line practitioners when working with families where domestic abuse has been identified. The change star focusses on the abusive behaviour of male service users and will develop the practice and skill set of practitioners to address this behaviour in a collaborative way. The change Star will assist practitioners to underpin long term changes within the families they work with. The training will help to measure motivation to change this behaviour with service users so longer-term interventions can be put in place and the risk of domestic abuse towards women and children reduced

We also discuss our service and discuss the referral pathway as well as providing a handy link to make a direct referral to us for any young people that need additional 1:1 support.

SORTED: Cannabis, Stimulants and Solvents 

A 1.5-hour virtual session to look more closely at 3 of the most commonly used substances in Northumberland. We will look closely at the risks and dangers of these specific substances, how young people have been affected and some of the issues that these substances pose. At the end of the session, you will have increased knowledge of the risks and dangers, as well as harm reduction advice. You will be provided with a host of reliable, accurate resources which professionals can use to support young people they are working with. We also discuss the referral pathway and provide a link to make a direct referral for any young people that need additional 1:1 support.

ROAR: A Mental Health Approach for Primary Age Children 

This one-day course provides a basic understanding of mental health and some of the associated conditions as well as some resources and strategies designed to help children struggling as a result of these needs. Developed by Liverpool CAMHS, ROAR is a basic introduction to mental health, it adopts a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) based approach. It is designed to be embedded as a whole school/setting approach to supporting mental health.

Child Safety and Accident Prevention  

This training provides professionals working with families and parents/carers the knowledge and practical skills to address the leading causes of unintentional injuries among children.  It includes demonstrations and visual materials to raise awareness of injury hazards and prevention measures that reduce the risk of unintentional injury, disability or death to young children.

Overweight and Obesity in Children and Young People (0-19 years), Making Every Contact Count

This training offers age-related guidance and resources to enable you to have conversations with the parent/carers of children and young people.  The training offers a practical framework for supporting behaviour change and will enable you to undertake conversations focusing on healthy lifestyle changes for families and children including healthy eating, physical activity and an understanding of childhood obesity.

Making Every Contact Count (MECC)  
Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is an approach to behaviour change that encourages us to use the millions of day-to-day interactions that organisations and individuals have with other people to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing.  It is about having healthy conversations, raising awareness and sharing key health and wellbeing messages and helping to signpost people to the relevant support and advice.  This session will help to build skills, knowledge and ability to promote healthier lifestyles and positive well-being looking at effective communication and how to shape healthy conversations.

Online sexual abuse is largely a hidden crime and it’s likely that the scale and prevalence of it is much higher than estimates suggest.
